EDS’
“Swing Break Par-Tee” Raises over $10,000 for Salesmanship
Club Youth and Family Centers |
|

|
|
EDS
kicked off the 2007 EDS Byron Nelson Championship last week
during its “Swing Break Par-Tee,” a party to get EDS employees
in the golfing – and giving – spirit.
Throughout the
week, EDS employees participated in several money-raising
activities, with all proceeds benefiting Salesmanship Club
Youth and Family Centers (SCYFC). Employees made donations,
played games, participated in a raffle for golf merchandise
and bid on a variety of auction items.
By the end of
the week, EDS employees had raised over $10,000 for SCYFC,
more than doubling the amount of money EDS employees raised
prior to the tournament last year.
Some EDS “Swing
Break Par-Tee” attractions included:
- Appearances by
members of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and the fifth
grade class from the J. Erik Jonsson Community
School
- Unveiling of
the design of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship
chopper
- Tricycle
"chopper" races
- Putting greens
- Swing Analysis
& Wellness Tent
- Pinball and
Skee-ball machines

The
Institute for Excellence in Urban Education, an
information-sharing and consulting arm of Salesmanship Club
Youth and Family Centers, recently
published an article entitled “Red Folder Process” in the
Journal of Staff
Development by the National Staff Development
Council. With Red Folder, a system developed by staff at
Salesmanship Club’s J. Erik Jonsson Community School, any
teacher can initiate an intervention for a lower- performing
student at a special monthly meeting. By presenting data – the
Red Folder – about a struggling student, the team brainstorms
and develops a strategic intervention action plan for that
child. The teacher follows up with the Red Folder team until
the student is performing again at a higher level.
Tim
Noonan, second grade teacher, confirms the Red Folder’s power:
“As a relatively new teacher at Jonsson, sometimes I don’t
have the repertoire of strategies that others might readily
have available. I find it helpful when the people around the
table help me pinpoint and articulate what might work with
certain kids.”
Red Folder is just one example of how
Byron’s work for the kids continues through the services of
Salesmanship Club Youth and Family
Centers.
