About Byron NelsonThe Championship celebrates the life and legacy of Byron Nelson, our Championship namesake and friend, who passed away in 2006.
In 1945, Byron Nelson accomplished an incredible winning streak that has not been challenged to this day and will likely stand forever. He finished that year with 18 victories, including 11 straight, and established a record for the lowest scoring average (68.33), which remained untouched for 55 years. During his relatively brief professional career, Byron Nelson had 54 career victories, including the 1939 U.S. Open, the 1937 and 1942 Masters, and the 1940 and 1945 PGA Championships.
The EDS Byron Nelson Championship is proud to be the first PGA TOUR event to be named in honor of a professional golfer. Byron’s legacy is a primary reason the Championship has reached the $100 million milestone in total charitable giving. View Byron Nelson's Wins in 1945. |
