Byron Nelson Awards

Byron Nelson Prize

Byron Nelson Prize The Byron Nelson Prize will be awarded primarily to individuals who possess exceptionally strong leadership character and are beyond reproach personally and professionally. The selection committee will seek candidates with Byron Nelson’s most notable attributes of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship and perseverance while having a proven track record of “giving back” in the tradition of Byron Nelson.

Candidates for the Byron Nelson Prize can be PGA TOUR professionals, individuals or organizations associated with the PGA TOUR, The PGA of America, The United States Golf Association, the news media, or international golf organizations.

The Salesmanship Club will annually appoint a Byron Nelson Prize selection committee that may include Salesmanship Club members, representatives of the PGA TOUR and members of the media. Each year, the Salesmanship Club will solicit professional golfers including the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, Nationwide Tour and European Tour as well as golf officials and media worldwide for nominations to be considered for the Byron Nelson Prize.

Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards

Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Award The Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards are intended to recognize that junior golf is growing internationally and serves as the feeder system for the PGA TOUR, European Tour and other golf circuits worldwide. Many of the current PGA TOUR professionals were identified through their participation and victories in various national and international junior tournaments.

Byron Nelson was keenly interested in young golfers, mentoring many and encouraging many others. As he once told Ken Venturi, “Be good to the game…and give back.”

The Salesmanship Club will work closely with PGA TOUR professionals and international amateur golf organizations to identify outstanding junior golfers. Each year, four to five finalists will be flown to Dallas during the EDS Byron Nelson Championship with a parent or guardian to experience a PGA TOUR tournament, possibly including participation in the annual Youth Clinic and pro-ams, visits to the J. Erik Jonsson Community School and opportunities to meet PGA TOUR professionals.
